Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery System

Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR) system is increasingly used in new buildings to provide controlled ventilation. They are based on air supply, air extract and transfer zones within the building.

The MVHR unit is normally installed in the loft space or cupboard and the rigid ducting supplies fresh filtered air to the habitable rooms and extracts stale polluted air from the ‘wet’ rooms. Supply and extract diffusers are fitted to the ceilings and are adjusted to balance the system.

Before the extracted air is exhausted out of the building, the heat contained in that air is transferred by means of a heat exchanger into the fresh air, which is introduced into the building. MVHR uses much less energy, compared to conventional Air Conditioning Systems

Although MVHR is more often used for new residential buildings, it is also suitable for most of the present commercial buildings which are heated and need ventilation.
